First Contact Webinar
First Contact s a mandatory orientation to the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). It is designed for all newly admitted SDSU/EOP students (first-time freshmen and community college transfers) and should not be confused with San Diego State University’s (SDSU) New Student Orientation, which is designed to reach all new, incoming SDSU students.
For 2009, the FIRST CONTACT dates are scheduled for June and July. Programs will be conducted in San Diego County and the Los Angeles area.

FIRST CONTACT is conducted by EOP Counselors who will introduce themselves to the new students in their 2009 caseload and who will highlight all EOP policies and procedures, expectations and services. These include:
Personalized orientation to university and campus life
- Academic advising
- Personal counseling
- Free tutorial assistance
- An EOP grant (Please note: The EOP grant is based on your full-time enrollment, and income eligibility of funds.)
During FIRST CONTACT, students will read, discuss and sign the EOP Student-Program Agreement, which highlights program services, policies and procedures, and EOP’s expectations for student participation, all of which help to ensure academic success. Students learn about testing, general education and graduation requirements. Student and parents are given the opportunity to ask questions regarding information and important materials that they may have received from the Office of Admissions or other units in the Division of Student Affairs (including the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, Residential Education, the Test Office and the Student Acivities and Campus Life).
SDSU’s New Student Orientation
All students must attend SDSU’s New Student Orientation. The New Student Orientation is a campus wide program which showcases academic programs and support services for all students. For EOP Students, Parents and Guests, there is a reduced fee for attendance. EOP Students receive their EOP discount automatically at the New Student Orientation registration. You can reserve your orientation date by going to www.sdsu.edu/orientation.
