EOP Learning Communities
An EOP Learning Community is a small group of freshman students and faculty who all work and learn together in a community atmosphere.

EOP has a number of Learning Communities designed specifically for freshman in their first semester at SDSU.
English Placement Test (EPT) scores
Students placed in this Learning Community take a General Education course through the African Studies or Chicano/a Studies Departments. In addition, they attend a University Seminar course taught by an EOP counselor, a tutorial support class, and Rhetoric and Writing Studies 92A. Additional courses can be added by the student through the regular registration process.
Entry Level Mathematics (ELM) scores
Students placed in this Learning Community take Beginning Algebra, Geometry and a tutorial support class. Additional courses can be added by the student through the regular registration process.
Students who participate in Summer Bridge and need to take Rhetoric and Writing Studies 92B in the fall participate in this Learning Community. In addition to RWS 92B, they have University Seminar class with the Assistant Director of Learning Communities and Transitional Programs.
Students in learning communities receive special attention and educational support that can make all the difference in their success at San Diego State University.
The benefits of being in an EOP Learning Community:
- A smooth transition to the University
- Academic advising and peer mentoring
- Tutorial assistance in English and Math
- A chance to build a positive working relationship with SDSU Faculty
- Peer support
- Program events

The campus also has the Yacoya Learning Community for students who EPT is equal to or less than 141. These students will be placed automatically into the Yacoya program.
You will be notified by EOP if your test scores and admission status qualify you for a learning community.
