Frequently Asked Sumer Bridge Questions

 

How To Apply:


Q-Where can I find information about the Summer Bridge program?

A-Students will receive an “interest form” along with their EOP acceptance letter. 

 

Q-What are the starting and ending dates of the program?

A-The BEST Summer Bridge Program will begin on Friday, July 10th through Friday, August 14th.

 

Q-What is the difference between the residential and the commuter Summer Bridge Programs?

A-The residential program requires participants to live on campus throughout the duration of the program.  Commuter participants live at home and commute to and from the SDSU campus for all program related events.

 

Q-How and when will I be notified if accepted/denied to the Program?

A-Generally all applicants will be notified of their application status (acceptance, waitlist or denial) no later than June 1.

 

 

Preparations for the Residential Program:

 

Q-Are laptops/desktops/printers allowed?

  • Yes, if a student has a personal laptop or desktop computer they may bring it with them to the program, however it is the responsibility of the student to maintain the security of his/her possessions.

 

Q-How much money should the student bring?

A-As a residential participant, at minimum students should bring $10 for the cost of laundry.  Additional spending money is at the discretion of each participant.

  • As a Commuter student additional spending money is at the discretion of each participant.

 

Q-What type of shopping is available on campus?

A-Students may purchase snack items from local on-campus markets, pharmaceutical items may be purchased from the on-campus pharmacy and general SDSU paraphernalia and school supplies can be purchased at the bookstore.

 

Travel to the Residential Program
Students flying in:


Q-What date/time frame should the student arrive?

A-Students should schedule flights to arrive in San Diego no later than 12noon the day of check-in (July 10th). 

 

Q-Will transportation from the airport be provided?

A-Students needing assistance from the San Diego Airport should contact the EOP office at (619) 594-6298 no later than June 30th.

 

Q-Who will be meeting the student at the airport?

A-If it is necessary to pick a student up from the airport, participants will be greeted and picked up by an EOP and/or designated Summer Bridge employee approved by SDSU and state standards to do so.

 

Q-At the end of the program what date/time frame should the student book the return flight?

A-Departing flight arrangements on the final day should be no earlier than 3:00pm.  Students will complete final exams by 12noon Friday, August 14th and will have additional time to have lunch and/or complete all necessary packing. 

 

Q-At the end of the program, will transportation be provided to the airport?

A-Students will need to notify the Program Coordinator if they will transportation to the San Diego Airport

 

Q-Who will be transporting the student to the airport?

A-If it is deemed necessary to take a student to the airport, participants will be driven by an EOP and/or designated Summer Bridge employee approved by SDSU and state standards to do so.

 

 

Students arriving by car:


Q-What date/time frame do I drop off the student?

A-Residential students arriving by car should arrive at University Towers Residence Hall no later than 2:00pm and turn keys over to the Program Coordinator.

 

 

Housing:


Q-How are rooms assigned?

A-Students are placed in rooms of the same sex based on demographic information and other criteria by the Program Coordinator

 

Q-At what dorm will the student be living?

A-University Towers Residence Hall (http://www.sa.sdsu.edu/housing/towers.html)

 

Q-Can we request a specific roommate?

A-No.  Students are placed with students of the same gender and are selected by the Program Coordinator.  No request for specific roommates will be granted.

 

 

While in the Residential Program:


Q-I understand students in the program are not allowed cars.  Why?

A-Residential student live on campus.  All resources and transportation will be provided. 

 

Q-What happens to the student’s car if they must drive themselves to the program?

A-Keys MUST be turned over to the Program Coordinator.  Vehicle keys will be returned to students upon the students release from the program.

 

Q-How often can I visit the student?

A-There is absolutely no visitation permitted.

 

Q-Can we bring the student food?

A-No.  Students will be provided with all meals.  There is no visitation and no personal deliveries permitted.

 

Q-Is there a curfew? 

A-Yes.  All residential students must be in the residence hall by 10pm.

 

Q-Will the student have access to the internet?

A-Internet access is available at the SDSU Library, EOP office and within the on-site computer area of the residence hall.

 

Q-What medical facilities are available to the student?

A-Student Health Services is available for all students.

 

Q-Will the student have access to exercise facilities?

A-Yes.  Residential students will be provided with FREE membership to the Aztec Recreation Center.

 

Q-Where are the laundry facilities?

A-Laundry facilities are available in the University Towers Residence Hall.

 

 

Classes:


Q-What classes will the student take?

A-Students are placed in Development and/or General Education course based upon their academic need.

 

Q-How many units will the student earn?

A-Student may earn up to 7 units.

 

 

Extracurricular Activities:


Q-What supervision will be provided for off campus events?

A-Summer Bridge and EOP staff will supervise all student activities.

 

 

Residential Program Free Time:


Q-Can the student get away for family events?

A-No.  Summer Bridge is a full commitment from July 10th through August 14th
