Q-What does EOP stand for?

Q-What are the benefits of joining EOP?
A-EOP’s goals and objectives are in assisting low income college students. There are many comprehensive services available to assist students in reaching academic success and graduation. At SDSU some of the main benefits include receiving:
- Academic Counseling
- Free Academic Tutoring
- Access to an EOP student exclusive Computer Lab and study lounge
- And an EOP Grant up to $1,000 per year.
Q-How do I apply to EOP?
A-For Fall applicants: Applicants need to submit their CSU admission application on
www.CSUMentor.edu, - during the specified application period. Right before the end of
the application you will ask if “Are you interested in applying to EOP?” Select YES and then in the next page you will follow a link to begin the online EOP Application.
A-Spring Applicants: SDSU is not accepting Spring applications due to impaction.
SDSU Imperial Valley Campus Spring students have a deadline of January 30, 2009 for
their EOP application.
Q-If I submitted my CSU application and did not mark the EOP interest
question with a YES, is it too late to apply to EOP?
A-NO, it is not too late to apply for EOP. You need to log back into www.CSUMentor.edu
and click on the Apply Online tab. Then click the Educational Opportunity Program
(EOP) link, and select the specified semester you are applying for (in most cases Fall
2009). Follow the online prompts for the rest of the application. Remember to hit
“SUBMIT” and upon completion you will be given a confirmation number.
**All applicants must prove family income. This is done by submitting a copy of your parents 2007 1040 Federal Income tax form by MAIL. Submit 2008 taxes if currently available.
**You are considered dependent if you are less than 24 yrs old, even if your parents don’t support you.**If you are INDEPENDENT only if you are 24yrs old or older, have children, ward of the court or a current or former foster youth. Send in a copy of your taxes 1040 Federal Tax forms from 2007 or 2008 if already available.
If taxes were not filed complete the EOP Income Verification from. This form can found on our campus EOP website (www.eop.sdsu.edu). From the EOP homepage click on the link titled “Forms and Applications” located at the bottom left. From the “Forms and Applications” page click on the link title EOP Income Verification Form. Fill out the form and return with copies of all supporting documents to

Q-What do I do if the online EOP application is not working properly?
A-You can contact XAP Student support at 1(800) GO-TO-XAP (1-800-468-6927) or email support@csumentor.edu.
Q-Can I submit a paper application?
A-Yes you can submit paper applications by mail or in person. You can download a (.pdf)
application from our website at http://eop.sdsu.edu/ . Under RESOURCES click on Forms and Applications. From the “Forms and Applications” page click on EOP Application (.pdf).
Q-Can my recommenders FAX in the EOP Recommendation Form directly?
A-No. We recommend and prefer no application documents are faxed in because they hold sensitive information such as social security numbers.
Q-What is the deadline to submit a completed EOP Application packet?
A-SDSU EOP has a Priority Deadline Friday, Jan. 30th, 2009. (make sure mail is post-
marked by this date). If you are a non-local student Fall 09 applicant, we recommend you ensure your application materials are in our office no later than Monday, January 26, 2009.
**Applications to SDSU EOP will be accepted after this date on a rolling basis depending on space and availability.
Q-What constitutes a local vs. non-local student?
A-You are considered a NON-LOCAL student if you do not reside south of highway 56 in
San Diego or Imperial County.
Q-Are EOPS Community College Students accepted automatically into EOP?
A-No, EOPS students are screened and selected based on the same criteria for all EOP
applicants. A completed EOP application will be required.
Q-What are the differences in services provided by EOP and EOPS?
A-EOP and EOPS share the same goals and objectives in assisting low income, first
generation college students. However, EOP is an admission program that provides
comprehensive services to provide academic success and graduation. Each EOPS
program has specific services and programs. At SDSU EOP, we offer programs and
services such as:
- Academic Counseling
- Free Academic Tutoring
- EOP Student exclusive Computer Lab and study lounge
- EOP Grant up to $1,000 per year.
Q-If I am a transfer student who was not in EOPS at the community college, can I still apply for EOP.
A-Yes, the same qualification criteria will be applied to all students applying.
Q-If I am admitted by the University, do I need to submit all my EOP forms?
A-Yes, complete all EOP admissions paperwork before our deadline. Deadlines will be on rolling basis after January. It is worth noting, that per state regulations students may NOT be admitted into EOP after starting their first semester at SDSU.
Q-As an EOP student do I need to attend Office of New Student and Parent
Programs Academic Orientation?
A-Yes, you are expected to attend SDSU New Student Orientation and EOP First Contact Program.
There is no charge for the EOP First Contact Program which is an orientation into the
Department.
*Admitted EOP students receive a 50% discount for New Student Orientation Programs
automatically when registering. Reimbursements for students that are admitted into EOP after registering for New Student Orientation are not available.
Q-Is there a special Financial Aid Application for an EOP grant?
A-No, the EOP Grant is part of the regular Financial Aid application process. You must submit the FAFSA between January 1st and March 2nd. EOP grants are awarded to EOP students with the most need on a first-completed first-served basis. EOP students are required to renew their Financial Aid on a yearly basis. It should be noted that not all EOP students who qualify for financial aid will receive an EOP grant.
Q-Do I need to re-apply every year for EOP?
A-No, EOP is an admissions program and once admitted you will remain in EOP status
throughout your undergraduate education. Students previously admitted through
regular admissions at SDSU or another CSU cannot be admitted to EOP.
Q-How do I follow-up on my EOP admissions status?
A-Call EOP for updates on application status at (619) 594-6298. Students with incomplete
EOP applicants will receive an email detailing what is needed.
Q-Are non-resident students eligible for EOP services?
A-No, only California residents are eligible to become EOP students. Address any questions
regarding residency to the Office of the Registrar.

Q-Does EOP serve graduate level students?
A-No, EOP is a program for undergraduate students only.
Q-Does EOP cost me anything?
A-No, all EOP services are fee.
Q-Is there a separate EOP on each CSU campus?
A-YES! Each campus operates a separate EOP department and you must apply to each
EOP individually.
Q-Where is the SDSU EOP Office located?
A-EOP is located in the Student Services East Building, room 2109. We are open from
8:00-4:30pm Monday through Friday.
Q-Can EOP help me get into SDSU?
A-SDSU is an impacted campus, therefore EOP at SDSU does not have special admits. You
may check at other EOP departments at non-impacted CSU campuses for their policy on
special admits.
*Non-local freshmen applicants have a higher eligibility index requirement than local area
applicants. However, non-local students who meet EOP admissions criteria and turn
their EOP application and materials EARLY (usually before end of January) may be accepted into SDSU with a lower eligibility index than other non-local applicants. This is subject to change and
varies year to year depending on the number of applicants. After the January deadline this
exception no longer applies for any applicants.

Click on “I Want to Apply”
Click on “First-time Freshmen”

Click on the term you are applying for.
You will see a link for Eligibility Index Calculator on this page.
**Local Students Eligibility Index: 2900 (if based on SAT scores)
**Non-Local Eligibility Index: Fall 08, the average eligibility index of admitted freshmen who met the selective criteria was 4,182 (1,009 if based on ACT). The average high school grade point average was 3.77. The average SAT Reasoning Test total score was 1,165; the average ACT composite score was 25. The eligibility index for fall 2009 may be higher.
